Spider Friend
Eclipsed by the dandelions
My friend wanders by
Unlike all my other friends
he stands just one inch high
He never gets annoyed and
He never calls me names
A friend like that’s a rarity to find
I scoop him with my hands and
Let him crawl around my palms
He’s confident and small and he’s a model for us all
He’s possibly afraid of me
But I still love him so
Now I let him loose and follow him
To see where I should go
The grass is always greener
wherever my spider goes
He stops to sniff the roses
even though he has no nose
I can’t recall the last time
that my spider friend got mad
When school lets out I
mourn all of the fun we could have had
My picnics are always funner
when my spider friend is glad
I set him on the blanket
and watch him waltz across the plaid
He never seems too interested
in any of my food
It’s a shame that I can’t shake his hand
Or hug that little dude
My spider friend, the time has come,
when I must say goodbye
The sky grows dark, I’m hungry,
but I’ll miss you little guy
I hope that when I go out outside
Tomorrow afternoon
I’ll find you under dandelions
Watch out for my shoe
You have a special gift my friend
It’s quite hard to describe
There’s something about your presence
that makes me glad to be alive
Farewell my arachnid friend
And if we don’t meet up again
It’s been a pleasure and I’m sad to know
that our friendship will end
